Dr. Rüdian studied Computer Science at Humboldt University. His academic focus is in the field of Machine Learning. As part of his master’s thesis, he investigated the fingerprinting of data on the social network Facebook, through which individuals can be deanonymized. In October 2017, he was awarded the degree of Master of Science.

Dr. Rüdian joined the department in 2017 as a research associate within the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society (German Internet Institute). Since 2020, he has supported the AI Campus project of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). In April 2022, he became part of the IMPACT project, where he investigates approaches to deriving formative feedback in an automated manner. For this purpose, he develops transparent and explainable AI methods designed to assist instructors in generating formative feedback. Since 2023, he has been leading the MoodleLab at Humboldt University, which was established within the framework of IMPACT.

During his studies, he focused on methods of machine learning and the adaptation of learning environments (Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining). His current research centers on personalization, aiming to tailor online courses to the individual needs of learners automatically. To this end, he investigates cultural and personal characteristics as well as learning preferences, including their modeling and application within learning environments. Furthermore, he investigates automation pipelines to integrate AI components, especially large language models, into complex software systems.

As part of his dissertation, he examined the generation of online courses to facilitate their creation through machine learning methods and large language models (LLMs). In this context, he developed prototypes in the domain of language learning and explored new approaches to the personalization of learning pathways. In June 2024, he was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.).
