Frank Wehrmann completed his Master of Education in Computer Science and English at the University of Potsdam in 2022. From April 2022, he worked as a research associate at the Professional School of Education (PSE) of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin on the FDQI-HU-MINT project, where he was primarily responsible for the further development of the web app Getch.

Since November 2022, he has been a doctoral researcher and research associate at the Chair of Computer Science Education. His research addresses the connection between inclusion and immersive media.

Research Focus

Frank Wehrmann's research centres on the question of how immersive media (in particular Virtual Reality) can be made usable for inclusive and cooperative education in schools. In his doctoral thesis, he is developing a modular open-source framework that supports developers in creating inclusive multi-user VR teaching and learning applications. The modules, which can be used individually or in combination, are published as Godot plugins under the MIT license and developed iteratively following a Design-Based Research approach.

  • Inclusive VR learning applications and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Multi-user scenarios in VR: cooperation, collaboration, and asymmetric forms of learning
  • Nonverbal communication in immersive environments (embodiment, avatars, gestures, and facial expressions)
  • Modular software architecture and open-source tools for the development of learning applications
  • Research methodology: Design-Based Research and Conjecture Mapping
