Research integrity is more than just accurate and correct citation. Especially in the context of research data it means:
- comprehensible documented research data (management)
- no multiple publication of the same research data without corresponding notes or links
- naming of all persons who have contributed during the whole research (data) lifecycle.
In order to allow for reproducibility, research data should ideally be open and made available. Yet, this principle may conflict with issues of privacy, especially if research data is linked to persons. The goal of this research project is to investigate this conflict and to identify and test solutions, taking into account both differences between disciplines and between cultural perspectives. In the first step three case studies will be identified and examined via qualitative interviews and observation studies. From this, the main challenges will be derived and analyzed. Afterwards, guidelines, recommendations and best practices as well as generalizable strategies for the publication of research data will be created and pilot tested.
The research will take the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, published by ALLEA (All European Academies) in 2017, into account. Among other areas, this document addresses recent challenges emanating from technological developments, open science and social media.
