Research

We investigate the design of digital media and technologies to support human learning, co-operation, communication, and social interaction. This includes conceptual design, software architectures, user interfaces, and intelligent support mechanisms for interactive and collaborative systems - and (last not least) the empirical evaluation of the usage of these systems by humans in their work, learning or leisure context. In our research, we adopt an interdisciplinary approach which in rooted in computer science, but also includes methods from cognitive, social and learning sciences.

The main focus areas of our research are adaptive educational technologies, computer supported collaborative learning, computer science education methods (especially in the fields of programming and modeling), social media and cooperative systems, and multimodal human-computer interaction methods using interactive surfaces, mobile devices and 3D technologies.
