The Databases and Information Systems group at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, is looking for a
Full-Time PhD-Level Research Assistant (TV-L 13)
The position is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for 3 years as part of the project "RegEx Querying for Biological Sequences" (RegExBis).
The DBIS group at HU Berlin conducts research mainly in three areas: methods to support the analysis of large-scale scientific data; process mining, i.e., the data-driven analysis of business processes; and algorithms and systems for data stream processing and complex event recognition.
As part of the RegExBis project, the hired researcher will work together with colleagues at FU Berlin (Prof. Knut Reinert) and the Technion (Prof. Avigdor Gal) on the foundations for efficient regex querying in large-scale sequence databases.
Successful applicants will:
- Conduct research in the field of efficient database querying
- Publish research results in renowned journals and the proceedings of leading international conferences
- Collaborate with other researchers within the RegExBis project and its international network
Applicants should have:
- An excellent MSc degree in computer science, or related fields
- Very good programming skills
- Strong analytical thinking skills
- Comprehensive interest in scientific problems and the ability to work independently and within a larger team
- Excellent scientific communication and writing skills (knowledge of German is not required)
