Design of technical Support for a socio-technical evolutionary-teal Organization (SOTETO)

The project aims to investigate technical, social and socio-technical concepts to enable the evolutionary-teal organization Viva con Agua de St. Pauli e.V. to apply the principles of self-management, wholeness and evolutionary purpose. Around 20.000 volunteers are currently participating in the decentralized, open and loosely coupled cosmos of Viva con Agua, and they are a crucial success factor for the organization. Thus, the connecting CSCW system becomes of major importance, and it has to be designed consciously of the effects for the social system. Therefore, our project will determine the collaboration for all these engaged people and will affect the success of Viva con Agua in the future.

since 2019

The SOTETO project aims to identify technical, social and socio-technical solutions to enable socio-technical evolutionary-teal organizations to consider the principles joint optimization and organizational choice. The Viva con Viva project has identified an architecture for a CSCW system that allows implementing the technical part of the socio-technical organization with regards to the social systems characteristics. Our next question addresses the social tools and methods to enable the members of the organization to identify their needs and transform them to collaborate with software developers. We will create, adapt and evaluate participated design methods that can be applied. Additionally, we will design and evaluate a technical system to support collaboration between organizational members and software developers. This addresses the decentralized character of the social system and enables the members of the organization to participate the design of their CSCW system.

The project frames the dissertation of Johann Sell and several master theses. We will apply design science to develop scientific founded and adaptable solutions in collaboration with our project partner Viva con Agua de St. Pauli e.V. that will be our case study.
