Open Research position
The research group for „Knowledge Management in Bioinformatics“ at the Institute for Computer Science, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, has an open four year research position paid according to TVL-E13 (exact sum depends on prior experience). The earlist start date is 1st January 2026. Eligible are both ambitious PhD students and excellent PostDocs with a proven track record.
The position
The holder of this position will perform research in Scientific Workflow Systems (e.g. paper), Biomedical Text Mining (paper), or Time Series Analytics (paper); applications are possible for any of these fields or closely related topics.
The group
The position is situated at the chair for Knowledge Management in Bioinformatics, consisting of an interdisciplinary team of 11 researchers from computer science, medical informatics, and bioinformatics. The chair is engaged in a number of collaborative projects related to large-scale scientific data analysis, workflow systems, time-series analysis, and biomedical text mining. The group is, for instance, member of the Collaborative Research Center FONDA on foundations of large-scale scientific data analysis, and the the graduate school CompCancer on computational methods for precision oncology.
Requirements
- (Very) good Master or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Bioinformatics, or a related area
- Good knowledge and practical experiences in (large-scale) data science and machine learning
- Experience in programming in a research-oriented context
- For PostDoc applications: Strong scientific track record
- Fluent German and experience in teaching at university level is a plus, as the position is associated to (partly undergraduate) teaching duties
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary research
- Fluent English, very good communication skills
