Thesis Proposal 1: Camara App with built-in anonymization

Photos contain a lot of private information endangering the privacy of the photo subject, the photograph and of bystanders. Machine learning already allows to recognize certain types of information from an image. The goal of this thesis would be combining various machine learning images for bystander and street sign detection to blur sensitive data in the original image or even remove the bystanders. Depending on the difficulty of the initial steps, all this can then be combined into a camera app for  Android

 

 

Thesis Proposal 2: Privacy preserving travel card design 

Travel cars such as the Japanese Suica card or the Oyster Card in London make paying for trips simple. The traveler only has to provide their (charged) travel card when getting on public transit and again when getting off. As cards are identifiable, much private data is stored at the transportation provider which can used them for various analysis. The goal of this thesis would be to design a privacy preserving system for travel cards which still allows the transport provider to do meaningful statistics.

 

 

Thesis proposal 3: Covid 19 detection of super spreader locations with location encryption

For infections diseases the health authority likes to quickly discover hot spots to quarantine infected people. With the current approach of e.g. the Corona Warn app information is distributed, therefore detection locations of hot spots is difficult. The idea of this thesis is to design a system for contact tracing, that makes sure that the health authority can decrypt location information if a certain number of people have become infected, e.g. using x-of-n encryption schemes.

 

 

Thesis proposal 4: Implementation of alternative algorithms for MAC address rotation for BLE

Implementing and comparing different algorithms for MAC address rotation of phones to minimize tracking in BLE.
